We are in love with Kat's moody and beautiful photography. Attakat will be showing at ReBash on May 15th for all of you who are seeking an original, creative and unique photographer to capture your memories!
Tell us about your business/craft.
I’m a wedding + portrait photographer. I use a camera to articulate the subtle glimpses of magic that I see in my own life and the lives of people around me.
How did you get started?
As soon as I realised I sucked at painting, lol! Nah, I started taking photography seriously while I lived overseas in the Middle East. I was privileged to have many opportunities to travel and meet new people, which made me excited to share stories of what I saw and who I met in a creative way.
What is one thing people may be surprised to find out about you?
I’m a Yankee! I’m Colorado mountain-born and didn’t move to Canada until I was 20. Happily, Canada is home now though! On the photography side, I also do graduate research in photographic preservation, so looking at old photos, talking about old photos, and making sure the pics I take last a while is a bit of an obsession.
What is your personal favourite piece out of your own collection and why?
It’s impossible for me to choose a single photo, but I just partnered up with the most incredible lab (small time folks dedicated to the craft) who make fine art prints on Hahnemühle paper. Hahnemühle has been in business for 425 years; they know paper very well! To be able to see my work printed at such a stellar quality and to hold it in my hands is such a gratifying experience. I love that I can also provide this kind of product, something I really stand behind, to my clients too.
Who/what inspires you?
Short answer: I’m inspired by people and by life unfolding in front of me. I literally believe adventure is everywhere. Maintaining that perspective makes me excited to get up in the morning. However, a few standouts that I keep coming back to for brain food are: Morgan Maassen, Rich Roll, Messy Nessy Chic, Jonas Seamen, Granta Magazine, Robert Frank, The White Stripes, and endless reruns of Battlestar Galactica (2004 version, so say we all.)
What can guests at ReBash expect to see from you at the event?
I’ll be there with bells on! This is my inaugural ReBash so I’m going to have samples of my work, a chance to chat with me in the flesh, some of the aforementioned fine art prints, and a few darling little succulents to make the whole thing seem a bit more homey.
