We are profiling a talented event designer today, Create The Date! Nnolika loves to put her handmade stamp onto all of her events and we learn more about her here.
Tell us about your business/craft.
I am an aspiring event designer with a little business called Create The Date (formerly Wink Studios). I love to hand make and create all sorts of crafts and bring a unique touch to events and decor. I love to work with paper and ribbon and customize anything and everything. I recently discovered my love for designing and decorating for events after throwing a couple New Years parties, and decided to direct my crafting in that direction. ReBash will be my first show to showcase my event design side and I’m very excited!
How did you get started?
I have been crafting ever since I could remember (and was allowed to use scissors on my own). After graduating with a Diploma in Interior Design, I started making and selling small crafts on the side via my Etsy Shop as I pursued my career. Once I discovered the world of Event Design, I thought it was the perfect place for me to mesh my education and love for all things crafty. Now I am on the pursuit of learning more about the industry, immersing myself in developing my business and creating beautiful pieces for beautiful events. I’ve decided to launch a new name, a new site and new designs to start my journey in the Event Design industry. Come see what Create The Date can make for your special date!
What is one thing people may be surprised to find out about you?
As much as I LOVE bright pops of colour in my designs, one of my favourite colours is actually grey (yes I know it’s technically a shade!). It’s such a beautiful neutral that goes along with almost every colour and the perfect backdrop to any pop!
What is your personal favourite piece out of your own collection and why?
I’ve worked on so many different types of crafts, that is hard to answer, but right now, my favourite piece would have to be my ‘Hot Chocolate Bar’ sign. It incorporates many different things that I love; graphic design, chalkboards and a 3D layered paper technique that I really like to use in my work. I think it brings the best of many worlds together.
Who/what inspires you?
What inspires me is anything crafty and handmade. I love seeing the creativity of others and it fascinates me to see the beautiful things other people create showcasing their talents and skills. For some reason I have an HUGE attraction to anything and everything Kraft. Every time I see it, all I can think of is a beautiful blank canvas to work on and making something out of it. It has a simple, sophisticated yet rustic charm to it that I find very appealing.
What can guests at ReBash expect to see from you at the event?
All you ReBash visitors can expect to see some custom creations, simple sophisticated style and different designs. From centrepieces and signage, to favours and cupcake toppers, there will be an array of items that can be customized and tailored to suit your special day.
