RB: Tell us about Your Pal, Al and the background on how you got started.
YPA: Your Pal, Al is a handmade goods company that specializes in small concrete pieces and photo transfers on wood. Two very different things, but I love both and can't seem to stop. Everything is done by me, Allie. I graduated from the photography program at OCADU last spring and this was naturally my next step. A true dreamer who decided to create her own path in life and start a creative biz.
YPA: My favourite part is being able to create unique pieces and share them with others. It is the best feeling when you have been working on something really hard and people (other than your family, who are somewhat obligated to like your stuff hehe) have great feedback. This has been a dream of mine for years, so actually doing it is the best feeling. I couldn't imagine myself doing the regular 9-5 thing. I need to be creating and doing things for myself. I love experimenting with different materials that I don't have a lot of experience with. Like concrete, I always thought it looked cool and saw a bunch of DIY's so one day I decided test it out and I was hooked. I love the industrial, raw look of concrete and wood. I am obsessed with gold (cue Goldmember's "I love goldddd") so adding that special touch makes it unique to Your Pal, Al. I also use a water based non toxic sealer on all my products, so it won't harm you, your pets or your beautiful plants.
RB: How can your products be worked into making a cool and creative wedding even more fun?
YPA: I think my products add something unique and different to the wedding scene. They are perfect for planters and candle holders. The gold leaf adds a softness and sparkle to something that is so industrial. Brides nowadays really look for something different and that is what I am providing. Grooms will also love these because of the concrete. Best of both worlds, if you ask me!
YPA: ReBash guests can expect to see my concrete planters and candle holders. I have a few new products coming out before the show, so I am really excited to launch those. The planters come in different sizes and shapes, as well as the candle holders. You can check out my blog www.yourpalalcreative.com to see what will be there. Can't wait to show you my concrete handmade goods!
Well Allie all we can say is we, too, love gold and concrete! We never knew we had to have those two together until we saw your piece and now we are in total love! Buy your tickets here to shop Allie's gorgeous collection in person. (Psst...fun fact: Allie is Shannon's sister who will also be at the show and hosting a #badass floral workshop! Creativity must run in the family!)
