RB: Tell us about Gifts by B.
GBB: Gifts by B offers a small selection of homemade, natural goodies that can be a perfect treat for yourself or gift for someone else. Most of my treats are packaged in mason jars, but packaging and tags can be customized to suit event decor and budget.
GBB: I have always loved cooking and baking. My favourite memories growing up are cooking and baking with my Oma. My family lived down in the States while she lived here in Toronto. When we visited during the summer, my Oma would take me on a whirlwind cooking and baking adventure, from berry picking to make strawberry jam to table-long apple strudels with all the ladies at the Austrian club to homemade pastry. Yeah, baking was definitely my favourite :). It was not only a dream to eat, but I had so much fun helping her make these treats!
Fast forward to being an adult, and my passion still lies in experimenting in the kitchen. I got burnt out at my day job and quit last year right before being a bridesmaid at my friend's wedding. While jobless and soul searching, I made a storm of treats for my friend's high-tea-themed bridal shower and experimented with some caramel stuffed cupcakes for her work shower. Even though I had been told by friends in the past that I should do something food-related, I had never seriously considered doing it for real until everyone was asking where to buy that food from the bridal events. At the urging of my friend and the other bridesmaids in the group (who call me B, so not to be confused with the bride's sister, also named Becky), I decided to take a stab at selling some treats on Etsy, thus starting Gifts by B. I've met some amazing people along the way who have given me tips, advice and help. I wouldn't be here today without them.
GBB: Delicious food. Pinterest is also a (dangerous) source of inspiration!
In all seriousness, I do love delicious food, but the thing that keeps me going is the constant creation and creativity you can explore with food. You can never be bored!
RB: If you could only have one tasty treat for the rest of your life what would it be??
GBB: If I have to make it myself, it would be these chocolate pots based on a Nigella Lawson recipe. They are not only tasty but also so simple to make and easy to vary with different flavours. Last weekend, I made them with some orange zest and liqueur, then topped with whipped cream and candied orange. Delish!
If someone else is making it for me though, it would be this German cake called Bienenstich (bee sting cake). It's a cake stuffed with fluffy pastry cream and topped with a caramelized crunchy and sticky honey almond topping.
GBB: I am really looking forward to meeting everyone at ReBash! Guests can stop by for some samples, games and prizes, and hopefully some inspiration for their wedding or event.
