Tell us about your business/craft.
Dream Bloom is a floral and event design studio. That's the focus of the business at the moment, or at least that's where I try to focus! hahaha! I like creating things and putting things together and I always have so many ideas or things I want to do and and when I think of something I get very excited, so I tend to want to do so many things at the same time. It's a bit of a challenge to curb it so I channel it. The good thing about running Dream Bloom is it's essentially a design studio so not only do I get to pour that creativity on the floral and event projects that I do, it also puts me in a place where I could offer more than just designing their flowers and/or events. The opportunity to put together or create something for them such as bespoke presents or specific handmade items or a custom decor is awesome! I always think of my clients when I'm making something for them so everything in that project is about them, it's specific to them. It's like when you love someone, you always think of them and you want to give them something that will make them happy, it makes you smile just imagining them smiling when they receive what you've prepared for them. That's how I am when I work on something for someone's requests. Dream bloom is all about passion, dedication and of course happy. :)
How did you get started?
I've always been artsy as a child, I've done jewelry and hair accessory making, I've started on sewing (but had to postpone) and looove making arts and crafts. I've loved flowers for as long as I can remember. I grew up in a rice farm and there is an abundance of wildflowers. I'm always picking flowers, looking at them, playing with them, I distinctly remember crossing a small swamp surrounded by thick vegetation all around because there was a group of large birds of paradise flowers on the other side and they looked so beautiful, the yellow orange and red in a backdrop of dark and light greens accented by little white wildflowers everywhere was irresistible. It was a beautiful place but there was a sense of eeriness. I was so scared because the swamp is filled with lilies and who knows how deep or what's under those lilies, it's not very bright either because of the trees and vegetation around the swamp but the flowers are calling to me, I felt like they were almost reaching out to me, for the life of me as a child I could not resist it, they were so pretty! I tried not to think of what might bite or pull me underwater as I cross and I hope and prayed there was no snake anywhere when I got to the other side. I quickly cut the flowers and ran away from there as fast as I could. On my way home as I admired them I though of giving it to someone because they made me happy and I'm sure they will make other people happy too, I wrapped them as pretty as I could and gave it to a friend, she loved it! I grew up and forgot that passion for a while. I've been feeling burnt out from the daily grind for sometime and I've been playing with the idea of putting up my own business. I want it to be something I love to do but I told my husband I don't know what I'm passionate about anymore, then he said "why don't you put up a flowershop, you love flowers". That was a eureka moment! The idea made me instantly happy, suddenly I remembered how I used to imagine having a flowershop in a posh area in Makati (Philippines) hen I was younger. So here I am now, slowly trying to shift to living the dream. :)
What is one thing people may be surprised to find out about you?
People are always surprised when I tell them I have four kids. I guess to most people its a lot. I grew up in a big family and four is a small number, but yeah, that's what seems to surprise people about me.
What is your personal favourite piece out of your own collection and why?
This is not easy to answer, they're all my favorites, so I suppose they're relative to time. Right now I' so into succulents. They're very pretty and they come in a variety of shapes and colors. I love making pretty little containers and is always on the lookout for them as well as making planters and terrarium. I also love vintage and classic decor, they are timeless.
Who/what inspires you?
Ideas, random things or events and the pursuit of happiness... not the movie but the act itself.
